Friday, November 26, 2004Gene Kenneth Clark, 75, Webster City, entered eternal life on Nov. 22, 2004 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Entombment will be at Resthaven Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 204 p.m. Sunday at Ankeny Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1929 in Hampton, Iowa. He served over twenty years in the military, National Guard, Marines and retired as a Sergeant from the Air Force on March 4, 1972. Gene was a veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War; in addition to tours of duty in the U.S., Germany, Austria, Africa and Greenland. He retired from the Polk County DOT in September of 1994. He was a first grade volunteer at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church School for eleven years. He built book cases for the classrooms and also gave each student a hand made wooden car with date and his signature.
Survivors are his wife of 23 years, Hilda Womack Clark of West Des Moines; sister, Jo Hill of El Paso, Texas; daughter Katherine Garrett of Altoona; three nieces, Gale Christopherson, Beth Janson and Amy Offenburger, all of Des Moines; nephew Gary Hill of Lancaster, PA; and thirteen great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ester Clark.
Gene enjoyed wildlife, canoeing, boating, fishing, woodcrafts, quilting, children and making people smile. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive Lutheran Church School Scholarship Fund.
