Monday, July 7, 1980Ernest Grandgeorge, 90, longtime Woolstock and Webster City resident, died Saturday afternoon at the Hamilton County hospital. He had been in ill health the past five years.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Paul D. Williamson officiating and with burial in Graceland cemetery.
Ernest Grandgeorge, son of August and Louise Verly Grandgeorge, was born Feb. 25, 1890 at Alsace-Lorraine, France. He came with his parents at the age of 3 to the United States and was reared and educated in the Woolstock community.
He was married Dec. 15, 1915 to Vera Hazel Doughten at Woolstock, and the couple farmed in the Woolstock area for several years, moving to Webster City in 1943. He worked for several years with the Iowa Highway Commission.
He was preceded in death by his wife in December, 1955, and he retired in 1957 after having worked for 10 years at Webster City Products.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Kermit (Martha) Coover of Stratford, Helen J. Grandgeorge, Webster City, and Mrs. Everett (Rosemary) Gillman of Pleasonton, Calif.; three granddaughters, one grandson, nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Mourlam of Webster City.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren; both parents, three brothers and one sister.
He was a member of the French Lutheran church east of Woolstock.
