Tuesday, December 26, 1950John S. Stanger, 82, died at 10:45 Sunday evening at the Hamilton county hospital where he had been a patient for one week. He had been in failing health the past five years.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Foster funeral home with the Rev. J.A. Farnham officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
John Suitte Stanger, son of George and Margaret Stanger, was born July 1, 1868 on a farm near Wapello, Iowa. He was seven years old when he moved with his parents to Boone. He was educated in the Boone schools. In 1902 he moved to Webster City, his home since.
He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Dingman, Dec. 24, 1902. He was employed as janitor at Kendall Young library for 33 years, retiring five years ago because of his health.
He is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter, Mrs. Glen (Alice) Fortune and John Lawrence Stanger, both of Webster City; two grandsons, Leonard and James Fortune; one sister, Mrs. Ima Kennedy of Rogers, Nebr., and two nieces and two nephews, Mrs. Sam Mummey of Boone; Mrs. O.M. Sheppard of Norfolk, Nebr.; Walter Johnston of Emmetsburg and Harvey Johnston of Ayrshire, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother.
Mr. Stanger was baptized in the Presbyterian faith and was a member of the Presbyterian church at Boone.
He was always known as a kind and friendly man, having made many close acquaintances during his residence in Webster City.
