John Miller Dead
John Miller, aged 72 years, 10 months and 25 days, died at his home near Morrison Monday, August 9th, after but a short illness. The funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. H. B. Dye. Interment took place in the Morrison cemetery. The funeral was largely attended by his many acquaintances.
John Miller was born in Cullybacky, County Antrim, Ireland, Nov. 7, 1836. He grew to manhood on his fathers farm, and was married to Miss Nancy McGaw in 1858. He emigrated to America in April 1862, settling in Scott county, Iowa, where he resided on a farm for 21 years. He moved to Grundy county, Iowa, in February, 1883, where he resided until his death.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, 7 daughters and 1 son, namely: Agnes Copley, Margaret Mooty, Jemima Long, James Miller, Henrietta Mooty, Mary Copley, Elizabeth Miller and Sarah Hostetter. A daughter died in infancy. All reside within a few miles of his home except Jemima, whose home is in Quinter, Kansas. His sterling worth never showed to better advantage than in the trials of broken health. He endured his sufferings with a cheerful fortitude and was faithful in every duty as a devoted member of the Presbyterian church from early manhood. He was an independent, quiet, self reliant man, who in all his life, found most happiness in the companionship and sympathy of those he loved.
