J. Harold Miller Services Held

Funeral services for J. Harold Miller, 85, of Reinbeck, who died Saturday at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo following surgery, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 4 at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. The Rev. J. Allan Mittler and the Rev. Bill Branham officiated.

Music was provided by soloist Neil Freitag with Mrs. Neil Freitag serving as organist.

Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Hasek, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Seemann and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Brandt were in charge of floral tributes.

Serving as ushers were James E. Miller, William Lorenzen, Marvin Barfels and Gene Kubik.

Honorary pallbearers included directors of the Lincoln Savings Bank and also W. L. Mooty, Dr. J. E. Rose, Lowell Leeper and James Malloy.

Active pallbearers were Ivan Collins, Del Dvorak, Theodore Meinert, Drexel Dungy, Richard Billerbeck and George Rose.

Flag presentation was conducted by the American Legion Action Post No. 242.

Burial was held in Washington Township Cemetery at Morrison.

Masonic rites were conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at French-Hand Funeral Chapel in Reinbeck.

Born April 7, 1897 at the family farm home in Washington township, he was the eldest child of James Miller and Harriet Hyland. He graduated from Reinbeck high school and attended Iowa State University. After graduating from Cedar Rapids Business College, he taught public school. He served in World War I. On March 12, 1936, he was united in marriage to R. Esther Hanisch.

He was an active farmer and served on the following boards: Members Mutual Oil Co., director of Lincoln Savings Bank, Farmers Telephone Co., president of Morrison Co-Op, County Committee AAA, the Board of Review, Soil Conservation, Grundy County Board of Education, Washington Township Clerk, National Lamb Feeders' Assn., president of County Farm Bureau, Iowa Assn. of School Board, American Legion and the Issac Walton League. He was also a Presbyterian Church elder and trustee; 50 year member of Coin Lodge; a member of the Iowa Consistory and a member of the El-Kahir Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife, R. Esther; a daughter, Marilyn Brookshire of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Walter Harold of Reinbeck; a sister, Cora Pattee of Dinuba, CA; a brother, William Lyle Miller of Shelton, WA; and four grandchildren.

A memorial fund has bene established. The French-Hand Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
