OLE JOHNSON. Since his early youth, this gentleman has manifested a degree of enterprise which has redounded to his credit and resulted in worldly prosperity. He attributes his success largely to the aid of an excellent companion, who has prudently managed the household economy and given him wise counsel and cheering sympathy. For some years he has been living in Fairfield Township, Grundy County, where he owns a fine estate. He is of Danish birth, and has brought with him to his adopted country those national characteristics which combine to form the business ability which has secured his financial success. The son of Ole and Mary Johnson, our subject was born in Denmark, January 1, 1831. His parents were also natives of that country, and reared a family of seven children, namely: Ole, Jacob, Anna Mary, Cara Sophia, Hans J., Andrew P. and Christian. The elder Mr. Johnson was a farmer in his native land, where also he was given a good education. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and died when in his sixty-second year. His good wife, who was the daughter of Jacob Hanson, was also a member of that denomination, and lived to be seventy-three years of age.

Ole Johnson of this sketch came to this country in 1857, and, finding his way to Wisconsin, located on a farm in that state. Not being very successful in that region, he disposed of his interests in the Badger State, and in 1868 made his advent into Iowa, and in Fairfield Township, Grundy County, became the proprietor of a one hundred and twenty acre farm, where he is still residing. He occupies a very prominent position among his countrymen and has the distinction of being the first Dane to locate in this township.

When twenty-three years of age, our subject was united in marriage with Miss Cara Mary Christianson. The lady was the daughter of Christ Yorkson, a well-to-do farmer in Denmark, where her birth occurred. By her union with our subject have been born seven children, of whom those living are Jacob P., Andrew P., Ellen P. and James O.

Mr. Johnson is now the possessor of two hundred and twenty acres of choice and well improved land, on which he raises the various cereals, in the sale of which he has accumulated a good deal of money and is now enabled to retire from farming. In 1892, he rented his estate to his son James O., but with his wife still continued to reside on the old homestead. He is a man whose character and personal attributes are such as to win him the confidence and friendship of the people by whom he is surrounded. He is a member of the Lutheran church, and is one of the leaders in all its good works. In politics he always gives his support to the Republican party.
