JeffersonFuneral Services for James Selene, 85, of Jefferson will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. Burial will be in the Jefferson Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Greene County Medical Center Foundation and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
James is survived by his wife Marian of Jefferson, IA; his son David (Becky) Selene of Osceola, IA; and his granddaughter Anne (Justin) Tucker of Minneapolis, MN.

James Lorence Selene was born June 21, 1926 in Jefferson, Iowa to Werner (Vern) Selene and Pearl Lorence Selene, and passed away March 2, 2012 at Regency Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jefferson at age 85.James grew up in Jefferson and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1945.
On November 14, 1944, James enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and was sent to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas to receive his training. On August 12, 1946, James was honorably discharged from the Army and went back to his home in Jefferson, Iowa.
On June 17, 1951, James married Marian Van Gundy, at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson. They had one son, David, and made their home in Jefferson.
James was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was the longest active member. He was also a member of Jefferson Lion's Club and Greene County Medical Center Auxiliary. There he loved to help others. James served the community as Jefferson's Chief of Police.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Werner.
He is survived by his wife, Marian, of Jefferson, IA; his son David (Becky) Selene of Osceola, Iowa; his granddaughter Anne (Justin) Tucker of Minneapolis; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Visitation for James was after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with family present from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral Services were 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, 2012 at the church. Memorials were suggested to Greene County Medical Center Foundation. Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson was in charge of services.
