Jesse A. Son of Sidney and Ida Rockwell was born near Bloomington, Illinois, on October 15, 1876, and passed away at the hospital in Iowa City, May 26, 1941. He had been there the past three weeks for medical attention.

He came to Boone County from Illinois with his parents at the age of five years, He grew up in the rural community around Boone and was married on July 4, 1899, to Belle Sifriet. Two sons were born to them and passed away in infancy. His wife died in April of 1903. On February 7, 1906, he was united in marriage to Mildred Pearl Johnson at Grand Junction, Iowa.

The young couple established their home on the farm near Grand Junction and lived in that vicinity until 1915 when the parents of four sons and two daughters, two sons, Lester Vernon, Harry Kenneth, and a daughter, Bertha Bee died in infancy.

He leaves surviving, his wife, the daughter, Mrs. Jennie Kiner of Ogden, Iowa, the sons, Francis Raymond of Jefferson and Jesse Junior at home. He also leaves four grandchildren, Ruby Jane and Beverly Jean Kiner, Darvin Dean and Merle Eugene Rockwell, four brothers and one sister, Arch Rockwell of La Harpe, Kansas; Mrs. Ethel Hayer of Briton, Okla., Claude Rockwell of Groves City, Minnesota; Earnest Rockwell of Albia, Iowa; and Vernon Rockwell of Des Moines, Iowa; besides other relatives and many friends.

A sister, Mrs. Florence Johnson passed away on May 22, 1929, and a sister, Mable, passed away in infancy.

Funeral services for Jesse A. Rockwell, 64, were held Wednesday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at the Slininger Chapel, Rev. W. J. Todd, pastor of the Jefferson Methodist Church officiated at the services. Those serving as pallbearers were: Jesse Hillman, Carter Williams, Lew Meritz, William Schmidt, Clifton Curry, Andrew Dzuris.

Interment was made in the Grand Junction Cemetery.
