Mary Adaline Penniman, the sister of Mr. Ed. Howard and the daughter of Mrs. S. Wales, of this place, died at her home in Scranton, Iowa, on the afternoon of the 4th, aged 47 years. Mrs. Penniman was born at Waukegan, Ill. She removed to Monticello with her mother in 1862, which was shortly after the death of her father. Immediately after the close of the war she was married to Mr. Charles G. Penniman, of Bowen’s Prairie, who had returned home from the service. Seventeen years ago they moved to Scranton. During all these years Mrs. Penniman has been a patient sufferer. She bore the pains of disease with Christian fortitude and gladly welcomed the coming of death. The great leveler of all.
