Burial will be in the Greenbrier Township Cemetery, Greene County, Iowa. Visitation will be after 1 p.m., Tuesday at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson with the family present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Curt's daughter, Quinn Flack for her education and may be left at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Curt Thomas Flack was born February 3, 1960, in Story City to Jeanette Lee (Freeman) and Cecil Thomas Flack. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1978. Shortly after graduation, he began working as Foreman for Wolterman Construction, and continued working construction for many years. His carpentry expertise is enjoyed in several homes in the Jefferson area. In recent years, he farmed with his dad and brother, Craig. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and following NASCAR.
He began his racing career in 1985, and continued racing through 1992, driving number '07'. He raced many tracks in Iowa with his family and friends as his pit crew. During his racing career, he won 7 track championships, and had at least 100 feature race wins. His other awards included IMCA Rookie of the Year and All Iowa Points Rookie of the Year. Several times his crew was voted 'Best Dressed Crew', and he was also voted 'Most Popular Driver'.
On March 9, 1991, Curt married Kirsten Lee Scharingson. They became the parents of a daughter, Quinn Marie, on March 14, 1995. They made their home in Jefferson and later divorced.
Survivors include his daughter, Quinn Marie; parents, Tom and Jeanette; brother, Craig (Brenda); sisters, Cathy (Dennis) Toben, Connie (Barry Rank) Hurst, Cae (Tom) Lawton; special friend, Bridget McGregor; several nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Marvin and LuVan Freeman, Cecil and Iris Flack, and Dick and Velma Struve.
Curt will be remembered for his contagious smile, his big heart and his willingness to help others. People talk about cats having nine lives; we believe Curt had at least 25. Even though he had injuries from his accidents, it did not hold him back from doing the things he enjoyed most. Curt will leave a void in our hearts and lives without his charismatic personality and his belief that everyone should live life to the fullest.
