JeffersonFuneral services for Shirlee Wiggins, 86, of Jefferson will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday from the Central Christian Church in Jefferson with burial in the Jefferson City Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson with family members present from 6 to 7 p.m. A public DOES memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. conducted by members of the Jefferson DOES Drove #196.

Death: Jul. 8, 2013Shirlee I. Wiggins, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Mengedot) Wiggins, was born June 2, 1927 at Cooper, Iowa. She departed this life July 8, 2013 at the Greene County Long Term Care Facility in Jefferson, Iowa. She lived her life to the age of 86 years, 1 month and 6 days.
After moving around during her early years with her folks, Shirlee started school at Early, Iowa. She then attended schools in Nemaha, Cooper, Jefferson and graduated from Cooper Consolidated School in 1944.
Shirlee started her employment at the Jefferson State Bank in Octoer of 1944 and continued employment with the Brenton State Bank. She retired as Assistant Vice President in 1989. During the years at the Brenton State Bank, she was a member of the National Association of Bank Women. Shirlee attended N.A.B.W. conventions is Kansas City, San Francisco, New Orleans and the International Convention in Hawaii.
Shirlee was a charter member and president of Soroptimist Club of Jefferson and attended a National convention in Boston. She was a charter member, president and treasurer of Beta Sigma Phi, treasurer and board member of the Greenewood Inc. and Greenewood Home Ins. when that project was started. She was secretary and treasurer of Greenewood for 15 years and later continued to be treasurer and also rented the units for over 20 years.
She was a member and president of the Ladies Lakeside Golf Club. Shirlee had also been a chairperson of the Civic Bureau of the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce. During the time Shirlee lived in her condo, she was president and treasurer of the Village East Condo Association.
Shirlee was a member of the Central Christian Church in Jefferson since she was 21 years of age. She was also a member of the Jefferson DOES Drove #196. Shirlee enjoyed playing golf, traveling and playing bridge. She just liked to be busy and really enjoyed being with people.
Shirlee is survived by many cousins and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts; Irene Mengedot, Edna McClurg, Florence Mengedot, Betty Kendall, Bonnie Kendall and Ruby Eason and cousins, Tom and Earl Lynch.
A celebration of Shirlee's life was held Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 10:30 AM from the Central Christian Church in Jefferson with Rev. Debbie Griffin officiating. Burial was made in Jefferson City Cemetery. Musical selections at the service were "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "On Eagle's Wings" sung by Sheilah Pound and "Because He Lives" sung by the Congregation. Organist was Marty Brenden.
A DOES memorial service was held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday evening at the Brown Funeral Home in Jefferson.
Serving as casket bearers were Ron Powell, Nick Richardson, R.K. Richardson, Bill Figenshaw, Tom Lynch abd James Lynch.
