MYRTLE FARRAND
Estherville, Iowa
July 21, 1915 - July 9, 2012

Myrtle Albertine Farrand was born July 21, 1915 near Petersburg, Minn. the daughter of Albert and Marie (Guge) Aasby. She graduated to her Heavenly mansion at the age of 96 years, 11 months and 19 days.

She was raised on the Aasby family homestead until she was 5 when her father passed away. She then lived with her mother & brother on the Guge family farm & later moved to Petersburg right across the street from the Petersburg School, which she attended until moving to Estherville during her senior year in High School.

Myrtle accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour at age 16 and was a charter member of Calvary Gospel Assembly where she was very active in the music and women's groups. She had a love of music and enjoyed playing her guitar and singing in church. She loved playing the piano and was one of the church organists. Myrtle also went to local nursing homes to share her music ministry. Her faith in Jesus Christ defined Myrtle's life and gave her a foundation for meeting life's challenges.

Myrtle married Norman G. Farrand on August 27, 1939 becoming the first couple to be married at Calvary Gospel Assembly.

As an active housewife, she adored her family. She cooked delicious meals, canned food from the garden, was a great seamstress sewing much clothing for herself, children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed crochet work and embroidery and made special baby quilts for grandchildren and other relatives. She took up bead and jewelry making for a time. Myrtle painted ceramics of all sorts and many people received coffee mugs from her as gifts. She loved to take photos and was a prolific scrap booker having a history of her life in pictures and kept detailed daily journals. She was an avid letter writer, keeping in touch with letters and birthday cards to countless relatives and friends until her eyesight began to fail. As an artistic person she was never at a loss for a hobby.

She began working for the Fuller Brush Company as a sales person after Norman became disabled and proved to be quite a proficient business person.

Myrtle loved to travel with her family on vacations and continued traveling with Norman when the children had left home. Her lifelong dream was achieved for her 85th birthday when she visited Norway meeting many of her Father's relatives and seeing the country where he grew up.

In November of 2009 she moved to the Des Moines area to live with her daughter and be near where most of her family lived, enjoying frequent visits and family gatherings.

She is survived by three sons, Merlyn Farrand and his wife, Linda of Manchester, Wayne Farrand and his wife, Janice of West Des Moines, and Glenn Farrand and his wife, Diana of Ankeny and one daughter, Sheryl of Clive; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and her brother, Oliver and his wife, Vivian of FonDuLac, Wis.

Her parents and her husband, Norman Farrand, preceded her in death.
