Death of a Pioneer Minister.
By the thoughtfullness of L. M. Chase, an ex-Winneshieker, once superintendent of the county house and farm, but now living at Annieville, Clay Co., we have an obituary that pioneer settlers will be interested in. It is that of Seymour Snyder, a Methodist minister who began his career in Upper Iowa Conference in 1863, while his parents were residents of Decorah. His father was a character and quite inclined to drink. The family moved west in the sixties, and another son became wealthy, active in politics and influential. Seymour remained attached to U. I. Conference for a dozen years and then also went west. After doing service for several years as a circuit rider he successively filled some of the best appointments, and eleven years ago, at his own request, he was put on the superanuated list because of failing health. He went to live at Morning Side, a suburb of Sioux City, where he died. Death resulted from a stroke of paralysis sustained in 1900.Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he is buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake and was born in 1837 and died Aug. 6, 1903.
