To the Honorable David Irvin, Associate Judge of the second Judicial District of the Territory of Wisconsin.
Sir – Permit me to say, that I should be wanting in the duty I owe as a citizen, did I not humbly endeavor to express my most sincere and heartfelt gratitude, that I, in common with others, feel towards you for the truly judicious appointment of Doctor William R. Ross, to the clerkship of the county of Des Moines, which gave general satisfaction to this community. – He has hitherto discharged the duties of his office with ability, and in a manner truly creditable to himself and the entire satisfaction of the public.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, with much respect,
Your most obedient,
And very humble servant,
ONE OF THE FIRST SETTLERS IN BURLINGTON.
