Kathleen “Katie” Rose Scherbring, 87, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at St. Luke’s Hospice in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was born on October 25, 1934, at her parent’s home in rural Dyersville, the daughter of Leander and Calista (Gaul) Boge. Katie attended country school in rural Dyersville, St. Boniface in New Vienna and then at Bankston. After school she went to work for Babe Kluesner as a Nanny. She also helped her parents on the farm until her marriage.
On May 5, 1953, Katie was united in marriage to Joseph Scherbring at St. Clement Catholic Church in Bankston. Four children were born to this union. Katie and Joe farmed in rural Monticello, Masonville, Greeley and Manchester. Katie was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Katie was a wonderful cook making delicious meals for the children of St. Mary School in Manchester for many years. She was especially known for her cinnamon rolls. Katie also worked at West Delaware Schools as a substitute cook after retiring from St. Mary School. She made many quilts and hand quilted them for her family members over the years. Katie also enjoyed crocheting and sharing her projects with her family. Katie loved spending time with her family and her many friends.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Joseph Scherbring of Manchester; her four children, Tom (Linda) Scherbring of Manchester, Dan (Laurie) Scherbring of Edgewood, Mary Jo (Pete) O’Connell of Manchester and Dave (Carla) Scherbring of Mount Vernon; her six grandchildren; her nine great-grandchildren with one on the way; her brother Jim Boge of Manchester and Joan (LaVerne) Wilwert of Bankston; her sister-in-law, Catherine(Al) Otting of Earlville; and many nieces and nephews.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; her parents-in-law, Joseph and Clara Scherbring; her brother, Kenny Boge; and two sisters-in-law, Rita Boge and Kay Boge.
