Murray Milden Luther, 89, recently of Legacy Point in Waukee, died Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 10 at the Adel United Methodist Church with burial at Oakdale Cemetery in Adel. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Murray was born August 1, 1922 in Madrid. He graduated from Dawson High School. After moving to Adel in 1940 where he started farming with his father, he met and married Myrtle Jones on February 18, 1943. He was an elected official of Dallas County serving as Treasurer for 30 years. He continued his interest in farming and raising cattle into his retirement years. He had many interests including managing his auction clerk business for over 50 years. He has been an active member of the United Methodist Church for over 70 years and a long time member of the Adel Lions Club. He enjoyed reading, investing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, and parents. He is survived by two sons, Dennis of West Des Moines and Phillip of Austin, Texas, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Adel United Methodist Church or the National Kidney Foundation.
