Larry Keith Ridnour was born on April 5, 1937 in Perry, IA to Wayne Kenneth and Corah Fae (Wiedman) Ridnour. He graduated from Perry Community High School in 1955 and then attended Iowa State College before entering the United States Marine Corps. Following the Marine Corp. he was united in marriage to Marilyn Loucks on August 31, 1958 at the Perry United Methodist Church.
Larry took over the family farm, where he grew crops and milked 100 head of cattle. In addition to farming, he also owned L. K. Ridnour Construction, where he provided bulldozing and backhoe services. He was a 53 year member of the IUOE, Local 234. Because he was in high demand for his skills as a dragline, backhoe and bulldozer operator, he worked all over the country. Larry was also a Master Mechanic, which gave him the ability to repair the machinery he operated. He was working for McAninch when he retired in 2001.
Larry enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping when he was younger. He also spent time gardening, boating and following NASCAR. He liked his music, attending concerts from the Beatles to Willie Nelson. He always had a dog by his side.
Everyone knew Larry as a hard worker, and like many from his generation he was taught to be tough, not show emotion, live hard and apologize for nothing. He was known for his work ethic, never missing a day of work. Larry was a proud Marine, fought hard to keep the family farm, and was a great provider.
Larry was preceded in death by granddaughter, Sarah Ridnour (daughter of Kurt and Donna), and parents, Wayne and Corah Ridnour.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Ridnour, Perry, IA, children and grandchildren, Kurt Ridnour (Donna) of Perry and their children, Cody and David; Eric Ridnour of Perry; Joel Ridnour (Merry) of Perry and their children, Gabe, Anna and Samuel; Erin McCarty (Mark) of Perry and their children, Paige, Haley and Dane; Ryan Ridnour (Michelle) of Lee's Summit, MO and their children, Carly and Cain; great-granddaughter Teressa (daughter of Sarah) and great-grandson Elijah (son of Haley); a sister, Janice Renshaw of Minburn, IA, brothers-in-law Keith Loucks of Perry, and Bob Renshaw of Minburn, IA and several nieces and nephews.
