French, Laura Ruth Peppers - 1919-2012

On Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Golden Age Care Center, Centerville, Iowa, the angels came and took Laura Ruth French home to begin her heavenly life with all friends and family members who have gone before her. Laura Ruth French was born to James and Rosie Peppers on September 4, 1919, in Chariton, IA. She was one of six children and the only surviving member of this family.
Laura was united in marriage to Francis French in Van Meter, IA, on July 4, 1940, and to this union four children were born, Roberta, Richard, Carol and Harry. For many years Laura and her husband, Francis, ran a cafe in Booneville, IA. Laura's cafe was a meeting place for everyone in the area and was known for its tenderloins, chili, and steaks on Saturday night.
Laura was a member of the Waukee Baptist Church. Cooking was a lifetime passion and many friends and family were always glad to sample the fruits of her labor. Laura lived most of her life in the Van Meter, and Booneville, IA, areas and, most recently, resided at Maple Grove Assisted Living in Centerville, IA, where she moved to be close to family.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 67 years, Francis; brothers, Merle, Tom, Harry, and James Peppers; and sister, Adelaine Parsons. She is survived by her children, Roberta (Dale) Weeks of Seymour, IA, Richard (Brenda) French of Perkosie, PA, Carol Schneider of Galveston, TX, and Harry (Deb) French of Van Meter, IA; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 5, at 2 p.m. at Iles Funeral Homes-Westover Chapel with Chaplain Carol Iammatteo-Code officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Monday.
