The Lord walked Fred Neuel Dunsmoor home to Heaven on Saturday, December 19, 2015. At his side at home, he was surrounded by his wife of 57 years and his children.

Fred was born to Harold and Thelma Jane (Moyle) Dunsmoor on April 26, 1934, near Strawberry Point, Iowa, in Clayton County. Fred graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1952.

He joined the Air Force in 1953 and was active duty until 1957. He then came home and joined the Iowa Air National Guard in 1957 until retirement in July, 1984.

He married Mary Borchert on May 11, 1958 in Zearing, Iowa and settled in Waukee, Iowa where he helped raise their three children, Eric (Donna) Dunsmoor of Minburn, Iowa; Melinda Dunsmoor (Jon) of Adel, Iowa, and Christopher (Susan) Dunsmoor of Adel, Iowa.

Fred's family includes five grandchildren, Rachel Dunsmoor, Renee (Bill) Dunsmoor Abel, Edward (Ashley) Dunsmoor, Tonya Dunsmoor, and Scott Dunsmoor; and three great-grandchildren, William and Kayden Abel and Rylan Dunsmoor. He is also survived by his brother Richard (Judy) Dunsmoor of Toledo, Iowa; and Pat Berry (Robert) of Conrad, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.

Fred began his career as an airplane mechanic in the Air Force in Greenville, Mississippi, which then lef to his job at the Iowa Air National Guard where he graduated at the top of his class in the NCO Academy in 1973. He climbed the ranks up to his final position of Chief of Job Control before retirement in 1984.

In between the many years at the ANG, he kept busy with many hobbies, including model airplanes, sailing, and restoring antique cars. Fred and May raced for ten years the sail boat (Y-Flyer) both at Rock Creek State Park and Big Creek. He was always tinkering or kept busy with a project which is why he had to build a bigger garage!

He taught himself with many of his crafts such as building center boards for sail boats, painting wood grain on metal dashes for old cars, or figuring out how to fix anything. Fred loved to incorporate and share his love of his hobbies with his family and friends.

He loved to travel and was able to drive coast to coast with his wife in his beloved 1933 Plymouth Coupe. He also loved to vacation with his grandchildren by taking them on spring break every year. Fred's interest in Family led him to trace back his Family roots to Scotland and looked forward to attending the annual family reunions every summer at Backbone State Park. Fred was a member of the Waukee United Methodist Church, ANG Silver Squadron, National Street Rod Association, Iowa Street Rod Association, and the American Legion.

The Family would like to extend our sincere Appreciation and Thanks for the participation in Fred's Life Celebration. He was a Loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, and Friend. His Love for others reached out in so many directions. We all are going to miss him!
