Mark S. Baty, 75, passed away December 30, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be held at Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, with the visitation on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the church.

Mark was born on July 19, 1936 to Edward and Millicent Baty in Des Moines, IA. He attended North High School and graduated from Des Moines Tech. He established Baty Art & Sign in 1961. Mark prided himself on his quality and perfection of his work. He joined Signs Plus as a sketch artist in 1995 and remained there until his retirement in 2008. For 30 years Mark taught a lettering class at DMACC and served on the Commercial Art Advisory committee. He had a passion for teaching others. Mark loved life, his family, his church and his friends at the YMCA Healthy Living Center and his dog, Sasha.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; sons, Mark (Carol) and Michael (Anna); daughter, Melinda (Larry) Grubb; grandchildren, Lucas, Julia, Lindsey, Matthew Baty; and his sister, Lois Davis. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward "Mac".
