DENISON, Iowa - Alvin Shrimpton, 51, of Denison died Sunday in the Veterans Administration hospital in Omaha after a long illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the United Methodist Church in Deloit. The Rev. Jim Gubser will officiate. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Memory Cemetery near New Market under the direction of the Huebner Funeral Home of Denison.
Mr. Shrimpton was born Jan. 23, 1933, in New Market. He moved with his family to Bedford and completed his formal education in the Bedford Community Schools.
For several years he was employed in the automobile business in Bedford. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his discharge he was employed with Husker News Co. in Des Moines for more than 23 years. He moved to Denison in 1979 and was employed with the Farm Service Co-op.
He married Viola Mathies Riley April 25, 1981, in Deloit. They made their home in Denison. He retired because of poor health.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Douglas of Atlantic and Elvin of Exira; a daughter, Miss Sonia of Denison; two stepsons, Rick Riley of Deloit and Joe Riley Jr. of Storm Lake; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Tom (Lisa) Lewis of Griswold; two brothers, Marlin of Clearfield and Lyle of Atlantic; a grandchild, and four step-grandchildren.
