Sadness was cast over the entire community Monday morning when the word was spread that Francis Cedergren had passed away at 3:30 o'clock that morning following a short period of illness.

Francis and his brother Paul had recently returned from California where they had attended the Olympic games with a company from New York.

Upon their return Francis went east to New York where he had a position in store for him. Upon reaching new York he did not feel strong enough to take up his work. he decided to return home and arrived home Thursday evening Sept. 15th. His friend Mr. E. Jensen of New York brought him home by auto. He was in a very weak condition when he reached home. Physicians were summoned and upon the return of his blood test it was discovered he had malaria. He was under the hands of a trained nurse and loving hands did all possible to retain life but of no avail. At noon on Sunday he went into a coma from which he did not awaken. The beloved family were all at his bedside. His sisters, Jeanette of Moneta, Iowa and Ruth of Lawton reached home Sunday evening.

John Francis August Cedergren, son of John and Hilda Cedergren was born in Kiron Sept. 3, 1907. His entire life was lived in Kiron with the exception of a few years in Oakland, Nebr., and two years in New York. He received his schooling in the Kiron schools and graduated from the Kiron High school with the Class of 1925. He always ranked high in his studies, both in his grade work, high school work and later in his college work. In his schooling and teaching he made friends everywhere and he was always admired for his genuine worth and sterling character. He was ambitious and zealous in attaining his education. He taught one year in the Ida County schools and one year in the Kiron High School. Then he completed a two year college course at Wayne State Normal and the last two years while teaching in the Sherman School of Business in New York he took a course in Columbia university working to get his Masters degree. He had attained the age of 25 years and 15 day.

Francis was a fine example of young manhood. A splendid Christian, beautifully devoted to his family and friend. He knew the value of a mothers love and when away from home often expressed it with tokens to his mother. He was always kind and congenial. His short life was a life full of usefulness. He was a valued and efficient teacher and instructor. He was a member of the Evangelical Free church since his early youth.

He leaves to mourn his untimely death, his parents, Rev. and Mrs. J. Cedergren, three sisters, Jeanette, Mabel and Ruth and one brother, Paul. One sister died in infancy. He leaves a large number of relatives and scores of friends here and at places where he has taught and attended school. Many comforting messages have come to the bereaved family from his many friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the home and at 2:15 at the Evangelical Free church conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. A. Faugerstrom assisted by Rev. G. Carlson of the Baptist church. Beautiful singing was rendered both at the home and church. The many beautiful floral offerings spoke silently of the deep esteem for the departed brother. The pall bearers were members of his graduating class and intimate friends namely, Newell Clauson, Bayard Lundell, Ernest Turin, Milton Nelson, Bert Lindstrom and Glen Goetsch.

Interment was made in the Kiron Cemetery. Peace be to his memory.
