John Oscar Carlson was born 7 Oct 1888 to Carl and Albertina Carlson at Arthur. He joined the Evangelical Free Church at Arthur at an early age and served on the church board for several years as trustee.
Most of his life was spent in Ida County except for one year when he farmed in Worthington, Minnesota. He spent one and a half years in the armed forces, serving in France during World War I.
He farmed with his brother Reuben until 1958 when he retired.
He died 12 Feb at the Ida Grove hospital at the age of 73 years, 4 months and 5 days.
Survivors are his brothers, G. Albert Carlson of Ida Grove, Emil Carlson and Reuben Carlson of Arthur; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Paul and Roy and three sisters, Mable, Selma and Ellen.
Funeral services were held 14 February 1962 at the Evangelical Free Church in Arthur with Rev. Wallace Larson officiating. Burial was in the Hayes Township Cemetery. The McNamara Moore Post of the American Legion conducted military rites.
Mrs. Herbert Tunberg, Mrs. Irvin Linman and James Linman were vocalists and Helen McGee was organist.
Pallbearers were Floyd Lindberg, Ed England, Herbert Tunberg, Carl Hedum, Paul Lindberg and Lester Belstene.
