After an illness of over one year, Mr. Alfred Bloom, a well known farmer of this vicinity living about five miles northwest of Kiron, passed away to his reward beyond, last Monday afternoon. John Alfred Bloom was born 19 June 1853 at Elsborgs Län, Västergötland, Sweden. He came to America with his parents in 1871 and they located at DeKalb, Illinois. He was married in the year of 1876 to Albertina Charlotta Jonsdotter. Their union was blessed with eight children, two of which are dead. Mr. Bloom moved to Ida county Iowa during the year of 1881. He joined the Lutheran church in 1882 and was a faithful member until his death.
He was a devoted husband and a kind and indulgent father; to his sisters a tender brother, to his friends a soul of fellowship. But the greatest of all was he as a man. And as a man it is that those who knew him best most love to contemplate him.
Short funeral services were held at the house at 1:30 and at the Bethel Lutheran church at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the Rev. J. A. Christenson, pastor of the church delivering the funeral sermon. The choir rendered several songs for the occasion. The church was crowded with people who came to pay their last tribute to their dead friend. The nearest relatives who morn his departure are his beloved wife: two daughters, Esther and Alice; four sons, Charles, Claus, Axel and Anvey. Also, one brother, C. A. Bloom, at DeKalb, Illinois.
To the broken-hearted wife and children who sit in sorrow where his footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend the sympathy of their many friends, and when they have drained the cup, may the peace that passeth understanding come to them from One who cares for each little sparrow that falls.
