MOTHER AND BABE ENDANGERED
Fire at Home of Supt. F.N. Olry Last Thursday Does Much Damage and Endangered Life
An early morning blaze at the F.N. Olry home located on Nassau street Thursday caused a loss estimated at $2,300. Had it not been for the quick response of the fire department the home would have been totally destroyed.
The fire was discovered by August Ohl, a neighbor, at 7:30 o'clock. Mr. Ohl saw smoke coming from the roof and notify Mr. Olry, who phoned the alarm to city hall. The fire departemtn was on the scene within fifteen minutes but not before the flames had broken through the roof.
Mrs. Olry with her week old babe were in a bedroom on the ground floor and were removed carefully to the home of Dietrick Vannier.
Spactators beleived that there was no chance of saving the property when the fire department arrived on the scene as the room was one mass of flames. The firmen, however, were not dismayed and it was only a few moments before they had the blaze under contrl.
Mr. Olry estimates the damage at $2,300. The entire roof will have to be replaced and the rooms replastered and decorated. The exact cause of the fire is not known but is thought to have been due to defective flue or to the electric wiring.
