Thomas C. Bartow of this city, a veteran of the Civil War, has an interesting relic, which he prizes highly. It is a letter written by himself to a comrade, Attorney John W. Hague, while the 188th Pennsylvania regiment, with which the writer was serving, was stationed at Danville, Va., doing provost duty at the close of the war, in 1865. Mr. Hague had left the regiment previous to that time, and was engaged in the practice of his profession at Pittsburn, Pa. The two men exchanged letters some time ago, each one keeping the letter that he himself had written, as a relic of the war times. Mr. Bartow read the letter to a Herald reporter. It told of the movements of the regiment, and described a railroad accident, wherein several of the union soldiers had been killed. The letter is written on coarse, dark paper, known at that time as "rebel paper," and is an interesting reminder of the days of the great conflicts.
