Susan D. Hare, 74, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 30, 2024, at home.

Susan Diane Knutsen was born on Feb. 1, 1950, in Clinton, Iowa, to Glenn and JoAnn (Reher) Knutsen. She was a 1968 graduate of DeWitt High School. She married William "Bill" Hare on April 12, 1980, in Malone, Iowa. Two children were born to this union, Fred and Katie.

Susan had first worked for Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, then Jackson County Abstract and Title for several years, and finally at the Jackson County Assessor's Office in Maquoketa for over 15 years.

She was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. She was a great cook, loved her cat, and took care of all the neighborhood cats. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, William "Bill" Hare of Maquoketa; children: Fred Hare of Maquoketa, and Katie Hare of Dubuque; 2 grandchildren, Payden and Madison; her mother, JoAnn Knutsen of DeWitt; sister, Linda Knutsen of DeWitt; and a brother Larry (Karyn) Knutsen of Marion, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her father.

A celebration of her life will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2024, in the social room at First Lutheran Church in Maquoketa. Cremation rites have been accorded. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is caring for the family.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a Susan D. Hare memorial fund has been established.
