The DeWitt Standard, Dec. 22, 1858

Departed this life Nov. 28th, in Wesport, N. Y., Miss Fidelia Hall, late of DeWitt, Iowa. Yes, Fidelia Hall is no more! Sad, sad it is to see such a one cut off in the flower of her youth, in the zenith of her life. She possessed those rare and good qualities of the heart that make women so lovely in all the vicissitudes of life; joyous, punctual, modest, confiding, patient, but resolute -- reviving in trouble; always pointing to the brightest side, and concealing nothing but her own sorrow. But this beloved daughter, sister and friend, has passed away, and many a weeping eye and heavy heart will respond to the news. By her premature death, her family and relatives have sustained a sore bereavement, and realize that a vacuum is left in their midst that can never be filled.

Her friends deplore her loss; and feel that a bright ray of sunshine on life's rugged pathway has suddenly been overshadowed by the cold hand of death. But we should not pause to weep amid the shifting scenes of time and frail mortality, but look beyond, to that land of joy and rest where the heart is never grieved, and the eye forgets to weep, and living founts and fadeless flowers glitter in the light of immortality.
