Amos Kirby, whose funeral was held Friday, with Rev. Lookingbill in charge, was the only son of Elias Kirby Jr. and Lucinda Kirby, born in Clarke County this state, March 18, 1862 and died Aug. 1, 1928, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 13 days.

When he was a small child, he, with his parents, moved to Champaign county, Ill., where he lived until he came back to Iowa sixteen years ago. He was married to Della Dean, Dec. 6, 1885.
To this union was born seven children, 5 boys and 2 girls, Mrs. Myrtle Wycoff, Alpers, Graham, Charles, Attric who died in childhood, Fay and Mrs. Ressa Baldwin.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, children, also 3 sisters, Mrs. Mattie Tweedy, Mrs. Liza Williams and Evaline Kirby of Assumption, Ill., also 10 living grandchildren and 3 who have passed away, besides a host of friends.
He was a kind and loving father who will be missed by all.
Interment was in the Nevada cemetery, following services held at the home in Milford township.

notes: Amos Kirby's aunt Margaret Kirby Saddoris and uncle John Kirby came from Champaign County, Illinois to Clarke County in 1853 and settled in Fremont Township in Clarke County. Henry Kirby arrived in Clarke County a couple years later with his parents Elias Sr. and Mary Johnson Kirby. Another married daughter Theresa Blanchard and family also came... as did his uncle's Elias Jr. and Joshua Kirby and their young families.

Henry Kirby was mustered into the 15th Iowa Infantry in 1864. He was captured in the battle of Atlanta, spent time in Andersonville prison in Georgia. He was released in a prisoner swap but died of disease a few days after being released.

For whatever reason, Henry Kirby's aged parents sold out and returned to Champaign Co., Illinois ... as did three of their sons, John, Elias Jr. and Joshua. The two married daughters stayed in Iowa.
Henry's wife, Mary Howard, had already lost her father, Joseph Howard, to illness after he enlisted at the beginning of the war. Mary Howard Kirby also sold her land and returned to Illinois and remarried. Henry Kirby's second daughter was born a few days after his death down in Georgia.
