KILLED AT WATERLOO.
Thos. McLarnan Fatally Injured in the Central Yards at Waterloo Saturday and Died Sunday Morning.
Thomas McLarnan, of this city, met with an accident while at work in Waterloo Saturday, which resulted in his death Sunday.
Last Friday he went to Waterloo with a gang of snow shovelers and on Saturday worked in the local freight yards cleaning away the snow from side tracks. While thus engaged a caboose was switched down the track on which he was at work and he was knocked underneath. He grasped a part of the car and was dragged some distance. His brother, Sam, also of this city, was working near by, and was an eye witness to the terrible fate which had befallen his brother, and hurried to his rescue, dragging him from his perilous position. The right sight{sic} of his head and face were lacerated, the left eye was distorted and bruised, the right leg was broken near the hip and hip joint crushed and three ribs broken, besides other internal injuries. Examination made by the railroad surgeons revealed the fact that he was mortally injured. He was taken to the Presbyterian hospital where everything possible was done to alleviate his suffering.
The spark of life went out at 9:30 Sunday morning, and the remains were brought to Nashua Monday noon for burial.
Thomas McLarnan was a native of Indiana and was born in 1852, being 53 years old at the time of his death. He is a son of Philip McLarnan, of this place. He has been in the employ of the Illinois Central at various times for many years past. The greater part of his life has been spent in Nashua and he is well known around here.
Besides his father, a step-mother. Several brothers and sisters, he is survived by a wife and one child. The surving{sic} brothers and sisters are: Felix, of Monticello, Mo.; S. D. of Moville, Ia.; Harrison of Correctionville; Samuel and Chet, of Nashua; Mrs. A. L. Johnson, of Minneapolis; Mrs. Ellis Shoop and Mrs. Calvin Shoop, of Nashua.
The funeral was held at the home of his father Philip McLarnan at 1:30 p. m., Wednesday, Rev. Sinden conducting the services and the interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.
