DEATH OF EVAN W. PRICE – One of the Pioneer Residents of Silver Township Passes Away

There took place on Monday, June 22, 1903, the death of Evan W. Price, one of the oldest settlers in Cherokee county. He was born in Brecknockshire, Wales, October 24, 1827, removed to America in 1846 and in 1868 married Rebecca Hoover, who survives to mourn his departure. He came to Silver township in 1874 to a farm on which he resided until his death. Besides his widow, one son, William and two daughters, Mattie and Maggie, survive him; another daughter, Mary, having passed away December 31, 1901. The funeral services were held at the Good Hope church; a large number of friends and neighbors being in attendance. Frank E Weston, pastor of the Baptist church, Cherokee, assisted by Rev. H. A. Cross, pastor of Mount Olive Baptist church, presided. The remains were laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

Early in life Mr. Price was an adherent of the Presbyterian church and left a record of faith in Jesus Christ. He was a quiet man, a good neighbor, a true friend, a loving husband, a kind father. The presence of so many at his funeral, in spite of the heavy rain that fell all the morning and the many flowers that were brought to lay on his casket spoke more eloquently than the words the esteem of the community for him and their sympathy for the sorrowing family.
