Donald L. Olson, 82, of Mason City, died of congestive heart failure Tuesday at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit there. The body was cremated, and memorial services with military rites, will be at 2 p.m. today in the community room at The Willows at Mercy Medical Center West Campus in Mason City. Burial will be held at a later date.
Mr. Olson was born in Sac City and had lived in the area before moving to Des Moines. He had lived in Mason City since 1997. He was a Sac County Sheriff, a district representative with the Aid Association for Lutherans and an Executive Secretary of the Iowa Board of Parole in Des Moines until retiring.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Galilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake and American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and growing large tomatoes.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Sonnee A. Steveson of Ventura, Tamara J. Beschen of Seattle and Laura J. Olson of Decorah; a brother, Charles of Sac City, and six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Donald L. Olson Memorial Fund. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake is handing arrangements.
