ELKS CIRCUS in 1899

The predecessor of all large scale communitywide celebrations, perhaps, was the Elks circus Oct. 3, 4, 5, 6. and 7, 1899. The above picture shows Federal Avenue all decorated for the event with a large crowd in the street. The photograph was taken looking north from First, South.

STATE AND FEDERAL IN 1903

Looking south on Federal to the right and east on State, this picture provides an interesting view of the times just before the advent of the automobile. It was taken in October, 1903.
