MAKING OF MASON CITY CENTENNIAL ISSUE of THE GLOBE-GAZETTE

CREDIT WHERE DUE

On one thing with respect to this Centennial Edition there was amanimity opinion of the Globe-Gazette News Room. It was that Enoch A. Norem should have major - and almost total - credit for the editorial content of the issue. With a residence here of almost a third of Mason City's span, Mr. Norem was able to probe deeply into the community's past. It ahs been his chief interest for the past year or more and his principal task since the start of the year. There's a grateful appreciation on the part of his associates for the contribution he has made to this most complete history, in word and picture, of our community.

Getting Out 200 Page Newspaper
in Composing and Press Rooms

THEY MADE ENGRAVINGS
Hundreds of engravings were made in the Globe-Gazette engraving department for the Centennial issue. Above W. R. Maillard, engraver, right, and Roger Gast are at work on a large engraving of page one to be used on the Globe-Gazette Centennial float.

GETTING TYPE INTO FORMS
Cliff Egger is shown at left, placing the type and engravings into the forms while Ralph Crawford is at work on one of the many advertisements that went into the 200-page Centennial issue. In the background at one of the linotypes is Eldo Oppedahl, setting Centennial copy into type.

BIG EDITION OFF THE PRESS
It took special handling in the press and mailing rooms to process the Globe-Gazzette'sCentennial issue. Above Vernon Proctor and Arnold Koed are checking papers as they are fed from the folder of the press to the conveyor which carries them to the mailing room.

ASSEMBLY LINE
Assembly line methods were put to use as sections of the big edition were put together for the final distribution. From left are Paul Nitchals, William Miltenberger, Ken Rasmusson and Glen Allen, with Joe Calember, foreman, setting the pace in getting the 30,000 papers propertly assembled.

STACKED READY FOR FINAL RUN
William Milten Berger and Peter Mariner struggle with a load of papers from the mailing room. On top of the stack of papers is Bob Hentges, who is supervising the building of the big pile of newspapers ready to be stuffed in the final sections as they roll off the press.
