Last rites for Mrs. Dewey (Anna) Edwards, 87, mayor of West Branch from 1948 to 1976, were held at the United Methodist church in West Branch Nov. 17 with the Rev. Samuel Hahn officiating. Burial was in the West Branch cemetery.

Mrs. Edwards died at the Simpson Memorial home, West Liberty, Nov. 13.

The daughter of John and Wilhelmina Berg Marolf, she was born near Wilton Dec. 7, 1899 and was married to Dewey E. Edwards in Wilton Nov. 15, 1919. The couple operated the Edwards Well Drilling company in West Branch until retirement. She served as mayor for 18 years, from 1948 to 1976.

She was a member of the United Methodist church in West Branch, a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts and was active in that organization in West Branch.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Word, West Liberty; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and a son, John, in 1946.
