Iowa State Reporter, Waterloo (Black Hawk Co.), Iowa, 18 July 1877.

Three persons were drowned in the Cedar river, near Rochester, in Cedar county, one day last week; one the son of John Worrall, about 12 years old, and a youth by the name of Brown, aged 19. They, in company with others, were bathing, and in attempting to rescue one the other was drowned. Two more came near going down with them. One body was recovered in the search. Nathan Smith, of Springdale, was taken with a cramp and went down to a watery grave before assistance could reach him. His body was recovered late in the evening, and the last one the next morning.
