Tipton Advertiser 5 Feb 1874 page 3.

NOBLY DONE- While our cities and large towns have led off with acknowledging through their papers long array of donations for the benefit of the suffering poor in Northwestern Iowa, the smaller places are occasionally being heard from. Stanwood first set the example hereabout, and now comes the following, which makes a showing we think no town, large or small can excel:
West Branch Jan. 29, 1874
Ed. Advertiser:- The citizens of West Branch and vacinity, shipped on the 29th inst., two cars well laden with wheat, corn, oats, flour, meal, meat, beans, clothing, &c., &c., for the needy in the Northwest, consigned to Relief Committee, Sheldon, O'Brien Co. May those that have plenty go and do likewise.
Respectfully,
James Penrose
