1878 Cedar Co. History, Rochester twp, pg 726. Simmermaker, Philip, farmer, Sec. 30, P.O. Tipton. Owns 240 acres of land valued at $30 per acre. Born in Germany in 1811, came to America in 1834 and located in Iowa on his present farm in 1854. Married Anna M. Beech in 1837, she was born in Germany in 1821. Have two children- George and Samuel, lost one- Elizabeth, died at the age of 29 years, have an adopted daughter, Margaret. Are members of the Reformed Church, Democrat.
