Mary Louise Forshay Phillips was born Dec. 26, 1924. After a protracted illness, she passed away peacefully on June 7, 2012, in Alexandria, VA. Burial will be at a date to be determined in Overland Park, KS. Mary was born in Anita, IA, to David Ralph and Hazel Aldrich Forshay. She was the youngest of four children: Roy Forshay, Wenonah McNeill, and Dorothy Fort. Mary graduated in 1943 from North Senior High in Des Moines. On June 29, 1946, she married F. Gorodess "Gordy" Phillips, Jr. The family moved to Overland Park, KS, in 1955. Following retirement, they settled in Pleasanton, KS. Through the years, Mary worked at various jobs: as a bank teller, and a welder in an airplane factory during WWII, a dispatcher for a trucking company, and at an early data processing company in Kansas.

She is survived by her sons: James of San Francisco, and Mark (Terri) of Alexandria, VA; grandson, Steven; and great-grandson, Jackson. She was preceded in death by her husband Gordy, son F. Gorodess "Scoop," III, as well as infant sons Donald Carl and Brent Robert. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USO or any veteran's organization.
