MANILLA - James Maurice Powers, 58, of Sioux City, formerly of Manilla, died at St. Vincent's Hospital Thursday, Aug. 28. He had been a truck driver for Iowa Beef Packers out of Sioux City for the last four years.
Mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Church here by the Rev. Gabriel O'Rourke. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Manilla. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manilla, where the rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Powers, son of Thomas and Elizabeth McNertney Powers, was born at Manilla Aug. 1, 1917, and attended school here. He worked here until entering military service in World War II, during which he served in the Pacific theater. He worked at various locations in Iowa until moving to Sioux City. He married Netha McBride on Sept. 6, 1960. He had been in ill health for the last year.
Surviving are his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Helen Hargens of Boone and Mrs. Homer (Rita) Hanneman of Sioux City; and two brothers, Francis (Buck) of Manilla and William of Omaha.
