AUDUBON - Stewart (Stub) Linn, 52, former Audubon city clerk and an examiner for the state auditor's office, died Monday of a heart attack at Audubon County Memorial Hospital. He had been working in northwest Iowa, became ill on his way home, and was hospitalized Friday evening.
Linn was born June 14, 1917 in Guthrie County, the son of Harry and Ethel Compton Linn. He attended Audubon High School and was married to Ollivene Kelly Aug. 31, 1939 at Adel.
He served in the Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Linn served as city clerk for Audubon from 1947 until he resigned about 15 years later to join the state auditor's staff. He was a past president of the Iowa Municipal Finance Officers' Association.
Survivors include his wife, Ollivene; two sons, Larry of Atlantic, and Keith at home; daughter, Jackie Kay, at home; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Ethel Linn of Guthrie Center; two brothers, Lyle of Gray, and Steven of St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Richard Inman of Waukee.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church, the Rev. Harvey G. Quandt officiating. Burial was at Arlington Heights Cemetery, with the American Legion in charge of military honors.
