Rev. Richard J. Macke, 87 of Lake City, Iowa, died Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll. The Celebrant was Most Reverend R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of the Sioux City Diocese. Homilist was Father James McAlpin. Con-Celebrants were the priests of the Sioux City Diocese.
Music was by Marcy Anderson and the St. Lawrence Choir. Mass servers were Macy Macke, Payton Macke and Tanner Macke. Lectors for the funeral mass were Rosemary LaBounty and Jane Mitchell. Gift bearers were Father Macke's great-nephews.
Casket Bearers were Father Macke's nephews: Steve Macke, Gus Macke, Tim Macke, Kevin Macke, Steve Hendricks and David Hauser.
The Carroll Council 4th Degree Knights of Columbus formed an honor guard for the visitation and the funeral mass.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Visitation began at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll at 4 p.m. on Sunday where there was a rosary at 5 p.m. by the Carroll Council of the Knights of Columbus followed by a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed at St. Lawrence Church at 9:30 a.m. on Monday until time of the funeral mass.

Born on October 1, 1928 at Carroll, Richard J. Macke was the son of William and Matilda (Daniels) Macke. He attended St. Lawrence Grade School and later graduated from Carroll High School in 1946. Following graduation he attended Trinity College in Sioux City, Loras College in Dubuque, and St. Meinrad Seminary and later received a Masters Degree in Science Education from Creighton University.
On May 5, 1954 Father Richard Macke was ordained at the Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux City, by Most Rev. Joseph M. Mueller. Father Macke served as assistant pastor in Remsen and then was on faculty at Heelan High School and assistant to the Cathedral until 1956. He then served as assistant pastor in Boone from 1956-1961. Fr. Macke's other parish assignments included: Dayton, Lehigh, Roselle, Humboldt, Jefferson, Vail, Pomeroy and Palmer until his retirement in 1988. Following his retirement he moved to Lake City. In retirement, Father Macke loved golfing, swimming, riding his bike, and also enjoyed attending family events. He enjoyed people and will always be remembered for his favorite phrase "Howdy".
Father Richard Macke is survived by several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters: Marguerite Hendricks and Delores Hauser, and his brothers: Robert Macke, Paul Macke and Louis Macke.
