Dedham (THNS)--Joseph Anthofer, 74, who had lived in Carroll county since he was 21 years old, died at 4 o'clock Sunday morning at St. Anthony hospital in Carroll. He had undergone an operation for strangulated hernia Sunday, July 30.
Funeral services are to be held at 9:30 Wednesday morning at St. Joseph's church, of which Mr. Anthofer was a member. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. The Rev. Father Henry Pick will offer the requiem mass.
The body was returned early this afternoon from the Dietrich funeral home to the family residence, one-half mile north and three miles east of Dedham, to remain there until the time of the rites.
Mr. Anthofer, son of John and Gertrude Anthofer, was born in Bavaria, Germany. He attended school in his native land. He came directly to Carroll county from Germany and engaged in farming. He had lived at his present home for the last nine years.
Surviving with his wife, who is the former Frances Muhlbauer, are the following sons and daughters: Frances, at home; John, Techny, Ill.; Pvt. Peter Anthofer, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. James Franklin (Emma), San Diego, Calif.; Frank, Dedham; Louis, Dedham; Mrs. John McQueen( Theresia), Nevada; Mrs. Leo Reiling (Anna), Coon Rapids; Pvt. Charles Anthofer, now in France; and Henry, at home.
Two sons have passed away--Joseph, who died Nov. 11, 1937, and Paul, in 1925.
Mr. Anthofer also leaves four grandchildren; five brothers, Frank, John and Tony, of Glidden; Louis and Karl, in Germany, and one sister, Mrs. Matt Becker, Dedham.
