I translated the following article from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on 30 April 1875. Any information in brackets or notes at the end is my own explanation. It reads as follows:

The oldest lumberyard in Carroll County is that of Mr. E. H. Brooks in Carroll. Brooks has spared no trouble or cost to keep it in the best condition in order to give satisfaction to his customers. His cash prices are the lowest, and he also guarantees the quality oh his merchandise. In order to keep the high-quality lumber in good condition, and out of the wind and weather, he recently built a 16 by 50 foot building, and so dry lumber can always be found at his business. For the convenience of his customers, he constructed a feed crib on the building so that farmers can give their teams a feed there. It is free for everyone to use. He always has available the largest and best selection of coal, plaster, cement, plastering fiber, building paper, the best and most durable kinds of paints, windows, doors, window glass of every size, and generally everything having to do with building construction. One cannot do better than when entering into a business transaction with him, and will always find him an honorable and upright man. If you have ever purchased from him, you will have experienced this, and will always call on him again, all the more so because he is true to his word and guarantees a fair measure and weight.
