Aplington Resident Killed Tuesday as Train Strikes Car
Raymond Harken, 84, of Aplington, was killed shortly before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday when his car was struck by an Illinois Central train at a crossing in Aplington near the Ray Hansen Construction Company office. Mr. Harken was alone in the car at the time.
Mr. Harken, who had lived all his life in the Aplington area, had once farmed, and for many years had worked for the town of Aplington as street commissioner.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lucy Groninga; a brother, Isebrandt Harken of Jesup; and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Rykena, Mrs. Martha Stubbe and Miss Ann Harken, all of Ackley.
