William P. Woodworth was one of the early settlers of Bennezette township. He now resides on section 22, Pittsford township, on the farm formerly owned by Gilbraith Hazlett, which he has owned since November, 1877. He was born in what is now Cameron county, Pennsylvania, in 1828. He came to Iowa from Bennezette township, in that county, with Samuel Overturf, and settled in what is now Bennezette township, in this county. They named the township, then known as Coldwater precinct, from Bennezette, Pennsylvania.
.
Mr. Woodworth entered the southwest quarter of section 35, Bennezette township, which he improved, and where he lived for ten years. He then removed to Marble Rock, Floyd county, and soon after to Nora Springs, where he built a store and was engaged in the mercantile business about six months. He then came to Pittsford township and settled on section 23, where he was for a time engaged in the nursery business. He sold his nursery stock to Mr. Ferris and returned to his native county in August, 1873, where he remained four years. He returned in 1877 and settled where he now lives. His wife was Jane Miller, born in Pennsylvania. They have two adopted daughters – Mary S. and Lucy Brockway.
