Kathrine L. Miller, 93, of Winthrop, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, following a recent diagnosis of lung cancer.

Kate (Granny) was born September 11, 1930, in Clermont, Iowa, the daughter of Alton and Elsie (Kahler) Fram. At the age of 18, she married Clarence Miller, and had two children, Alton and Charlene. Later she met her partner of 27 years, Lynn Griswold.

Kate lived an adventurous life. She was a dime store clerk (Tegan’s, West Union, IA), grocery store clerk (Wally’s, Winthrop and Jack & Jill, Independence), bartender (Spit-N-Whistle, Prairie Du Chien, WI), raised mink, skunks, fitch, coyotes & fox (Griswold Mink Ranch, Winthrop), commercial fishing and clamming (Mississippi River, Prairie Du Chien, WI), bear hunting (Wisconsin), muskrat trapping (Iowa) turkey hunting (Missouri), split barrow ties (Missouri), secretary & bookkeeper (Alpha Rendering Plant, Alpha, IA), cook & waitress (Sis’s Maid-Rite, Winthrop), and deli manager (McElroy’s, Winthrop) where she retired at age 70.

She is survived by her children: Alton (Susan) Miller of Hampton, Illinois, and Charlene (Dan) Hare of Winthrop; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a sister Ramona Cook of West Union, Iowa, and a brother Ronald (Beverly) Fram of Saint Charles, Missouri; nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; partner; brother George; infant sisters May and Elizabeth; infant bother Melvin Leroy; and an infant great grandchild, Mercedes.

Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home, Winthrop, Iowa, with Pastor Greg Anderson officiating.

Visitation: 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, September 13, 2024, at Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop, and from 10:00 to 11:00 Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Interment: Fairview Cemetery, Winthrop, Iowa.
