Harold Gene Powers, 83, of Quasqueton, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024, after a lengthy illness at his home surrounded by family.

Harold was born on December 26, 1940, in Neosho, MO, the son of George E. and Mae M. (Church) Powers. He attended the Wilson and Jefferson Schools in Cedar Rapids, IA. After school, he joined the United States Marine Corps.

He married the love of his life, Zelda Karen Scott on August 11, 1962. They made their home in Cedar Rapids, IA for several years, before moving to Quasqueton, IA. Harold worked for Link Belt, FMC, and Goss Companies in Cedar Rapids and as a millwright at various locations.

Harold was proud to be a member of the Quasqueton Community. He organized an annual Golf Cart Ride through town, to raise funds for the community. He also helped with the annual Quasky Car Show, and loved seeing all the people show up to Quasky.

He was proud of his service in the Marines and was an active member of the Cedar Rock American Legion Post 434 in Quasqueton. Every year Harold volunteered to help set out American Flags in the cemetery during the holidays. He also helped with the development and installation of the Veterans Memorial in Quasqueton.

He is survived by his children, Teresa (Todd) O’Connor, Atkins, IA, and Carrie (Bjay) Amthauer, Quasqueton, IA, two grandchildren; Taylor (Drew) Nickell, and Tara O'Connor, three great-grandchildren, Kinnick, Karlee, and Kahne Nickell, a brother-in-law, Marv Findley, Cedar Rapids, IA, three sisters-in-law, Cheryl Scott, Janet Powers, and Cathy Powers, all of Cedar Rapids, IA, and many nieces and nephews.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents, George and Mae Powers, his wife Zelda Powers, two sisters, Mae Rhene Powers, and Frankie Findley, and two brothers, John Powers, and George Powers.

A Military Honors Service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Veterans Memorial in Quasqueton, IA.

A Celebration of Life will follow at the Quasqueton American Legion Hall, 106 Water St. Quasqueton, IA.

The Reiff Family Center – Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
