Dr. Alvin J. Freie, 86, a resident of Lockwood Road, Scarsdale, N.Y., since 1948, died at White Plains Hospital following a short illness. He was the brother of Nora Freie of Waverly.

Besides his sister, survivors include his wife, Mable; one son, a daughter and five grandchildren.

Born May 12, 1901 in Waverly, Dr. Freie graduated
from the University of Northern Iowa in 1924 and received his MD and PhD in geology from the University of Iowa in 1925 and 1928 respectively.

Employed by Standard Oil Co. during most of his career, he was engaged in worldwide oil exploration and production, principally in the West Indies, South America, Africa and the Middle East from 1929 to 1966. From 1963 to 1966 he was associated with Sinclair International Oil Co. After retiring in 1966 he worked as a licensed real estate broker in Scarsdale.
