Hunt, Verne Carlton, surgeon, was born in La Porte City, Iowa May 10, 1888, son of Albert Louis Hunt and Lydia Rachel (Belzer) Hunt. His father was a merchant. He was graduated B.S at Iowa State University in 1911 and M.D. at Rush Medical College, Chicago, 1913. After an internship in Los Angeles General Hospital he was appointed a fellow in surgery at the Mayo foundation, Rochester, MN. April 1, 1915.

He received an M.S. Degree in surgery from the University of Minnesota in 1918. In January of 1919 he became head of a section of surgery at the Mayo clinic and during 1920-30 was associated professor of surgery at the Mayo foundation. He resigned those positions in 1930 and thereafter until his death in engaged in private practice in Los Angeles. In 1931 he became clinical professor of surgery at the medical school of the University of Southern California. He was also a member of the surgical staff at St. Vincent’s hospital in Los Angeles.

He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Surgical Association, American Board of Surgery, American Medical Association, American Urological Association, Western Surgical Association, Pacific Coast Surgical Association, California State Medical Association, Los Angeles Surgical Society, Minneapolis Surgical Society (honorary), Puget Sound Surgical Association (honorary), Seattle Surgical Society (honorary), Alumni Association of the May Foundation, the Nu Sigma Nu and Sigma Xi fraternities and the California Club of Los Angeles. In religion, he was an Episcopalian and in politics a Republican. He was married in Little Rock, Ark., Dec. 30, 1922 to Mona Violet, daughter of John Sibeck of North Little Rock, a judge, and they had four children: Mona Suzanne, Lois Maurine, Verne Carlton and Charles David Hunt. He was shot to death by and insane patient in Los Angeles, Calif., Dec. 13, 1943.
